Steps on how to make ginger powder

  1. Bring the amount of fresh ginger root you are using into a bowl, wash them nicely under running water to get rid of dirt and sand.
  2. Once done, pat dry with some paper towels and place them on a cutting board. You can decide to cut with a knife, grate or roughly blend the ginger roots into small pieces. This will allow the ginger to dry faster.
  3. Spread the blended or grated ginger pieces on a tray with your hand and place it in the sun to dry. You can oven dry or dehydrate the ginger if you choose to.
  4. If you are sun-drying the ginger,  it may take about two days for it to dry completely, but if you are using an oven or dehydrator, it may take several hours.
  5. Once the ginger is nicely dried and crisp, use a dry mixer or food processor to grind the ginger into a fine powder.
  6. Transfer the ground ginger into a jar with a fitting lid and store far away from moisture.
