Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 whole eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp white sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 3 cups olive oil - for frying the homemade churros.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract - for flavoring.

Instructions

Churros dough

  • To a saucepan, add 1/2 cup of water, 1/2 cup of milk, 6 tbsp of butter, 1/2 tsp of salt, and 2 tbsp of sugar.
  • Allow the butter to melt completely and bring to a boil.
  • Turn off the heat and then add the flour and stir to combine until you have a smooth dough. Cook the dough for 1 minute while stirring it continuously and then bring it down from the stovetop.
  • Using an electric hand mixer, beat the flour to help cool it down.
  • Next, break 3 eggs and add 1 at a time. Mix the egg and the dough using the hand mixer until you have added the whole eggs to the dough.
  • For flavoring, go in with 1 tsp of vanilla extract and mix again to combine. You can use a spatula to scrape the sides of the mixing bowl while mixing with the electric mixer to ensure all the ingredients are well combined.
  • Scoop the churros dough into your piping bag with a star-shaped nozzle.

Frying the churros

  • Add the frying oil to your pan. Allow it to heat up to a temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Pipe 6 inches of the churros dough into the hot oil, cut them using a pair of scissors. Do not overcrowd the pan.
  • Fry one side of the churro for 1 minute 30 seconds or until golden brown in color. Flip over to the other side and fry for 1 minute. You can use wooden skewers for flipping the fried churros or your frying spoon, whichever you like best.
  • Once all the sides of the churros are golden brown, remove them from the oil and drain them on a paper towel. Do this until you are done with all the dough.
